Working Breakfast: “The New Succession Regulation in Europe”

28 April 2015 - Barcelona

In view of the imminent entry into force of “REGULATION (EU) 650/2012 OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND COUNCIL on jurisdiction, applicable law, recognition, and enforcement of decisions, and acceptance and enforcement of authentic instruments in matters of succession and on the creation of a European Certificate of Succession”, scheduled for 17 August 2015, the Succession Law area of Monereo Meyer Marinel-lo Abogados has organized a working breakfast to examine this new European Regulation which affects all foreigners resident in Spain (or another Member State of the EU).

With effect from the abovementioned date, in general, it is the habitual residence of the deceased which determines the law applicable to the succession, a situation that differs significantly from the rules currently in force in many countries, which are based, for example, on the law of the country of nationality of the deceased at the time of death.
