The National Competition Commission Investigates Various Food Sector Companies and Associations

27 November 2007

The competition regulatory organ has begun undertaken an inspection in order to investigate the increase in prices of certain basic foods.

In a brief press release on October 30, 2007, the National Competition Commission reported on the start of an investigation undertaken in the wake of various messages and communications from different companies and associations forecasting an increase in the prices of certain products due to an increase in the price of raw materials.

The Commission wishes to verify if the messages warning of or justifying the price increases by said companies and associations in the sector are evidence of anti-competition behaviour orchestrated to increase prices for foods which are considered basic.

The investigation has been initiated ex officio.
