The Business Climate Barometer For Spain Points To Madrid As One Of The Preferred Spanish Cities for Foreign Investors

2 March 2009

There are more than 4,000 foreign companies in the Spanish capital, representing 38% of the foreign companies located in our country.

Some of the factors that companies investing in Madrid most appreciate are transportation, communication and installations and the business environment. Cultural and leisure activities, the railway infrastructure and the availability and quality of qualified suppliers, the availability of distribution networks and channels and the telecommunications networks, amongst others, received a score of 3.6 out of a possible 5 points.

In similar surveys undertaken by the German Chamber of Commerce, German business owners pointed to positive aspects which led to the selection of Spain as their commercial relation destination: the high availability of qualified suppliers, the highly developed infrastructure and transportation network, as well as the quality of life in Spain.

Against the backdrop of the current international economic crisis, it is satisfying to see that 78% of the companies surveyed for the Business Climate Barometer in Spain plan to increase their investment in the Madrid Area and 44% plan to increase their workforce.

More than 70% of the German companies residing in Spain are formed by companies originating from the original “EU 15”. It should also be pointed out that the majority of these German companies belong to the service sector.
