The Creation of Companies Increases 28.8% in Spain

In June, the creation of companies increased by 43.1% since last year and by 28.8% as compared with June 2019, according to data provided by the Official Association of Registrars of Property, Companies and Moveable Assets of Spain.

This shows growth with respect to 2020 in all the autonomous regions with the exception of Extremadura, which fell to 17.8%. Navarra (88.9%) and Ceuta and Melilla (77.8%) showed the highest growth. The same data compared with June 2019 also show a generalised increase (only La Rioja shows a decrease), with two-digit figures in 14 regions.

Furthermore, according to the Commercial Statistics of the Official Association of Registrars corresponding to the second quarter of the year, 28,594 companies were formed in Spain in said quarter, indicating an exceptional increase of 119.7% as compared with the same quarter of 2020. There is also an increase of 14.3% as compared with the same quarter of 2019.

By sector, the rise in the hotel business is especially noteworthy, representing 10.5% of the companies created, increasing its presence by 24.5% and returning to similar numbers as in 2020. There have been other increases as well: “other services” (56.8%), education (48.5%) and health and leisure activities (26.4%). The following areas showed a decrease: energy supply, water and waste (-38.6%); industry (-12.8%); and agriculture and livestock (-8.8%).

In conclusion, during the past 12 months, 99,478 companies were formed, 26.1% more than in the same period the preceding year.
