At our firm, Miguel Torres is responsible for insurance law and, as such, part of the practice group Litigation. He brings more than 28 years of experience counselling a broad client base, with particular expertise in working with multinational corporations as well as insurance and reinsurance companies.
He specialises in complex litigation and arbitration procedures on civil liability and insurance matters, highlighting claims connected to industrial risks (factory fires, machines and equipment, electricity generation), reinsurance matters in construction, defective products, errors and omissions, professional civil liability and D&O.
Furthermore, Miguel has built a long track record of defending his clients’ interests in corporate and contractual disputes as well as challenging corporate resolutions. Moreover, he has acted as expert witness for Spanish law before the Courts of New York, the High Court of Justice in London and the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne (Switzerland), elaborating expert affidavits.
Additionally, he advises on the adaptation of policies to Spanish law, the review of a broad range of terms and conditions, including surety insurances (seguro de caución).
Miguel has represented his clients in multiple national and international (before the ICC) and ad hoc arbitration proceedings.
He graduated in law from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid in 1993 and completed an LL.M. at Goethe University in Frankfurt (Germany) in 1995. Since 1996, he has been a member of the Bar Association of Madrid (ICAM).
Furthermore, Miguel has been serving as member of the Litigation and Insurance Committees of the International Bar Association (IBA) since 2007, has given presentations on IBA conference and other forums and has been recognized as expert for Insurance and Reinsurance Law by Lexology (formerly: Who’s Who) since 2016 and, since 2022, also as expert for Insurance Law by Best Lawyers.
